Posted by 710 EMG on November 25, 2016 at 7:10 AM

To kick off our fresh new start we were able to catch up with Ms. Shakema Haygood; authoress of one of the most talked about book series "Growing Pains". We got the scoop on the Queen and she didn't hold anything back! Check out this interview.

710 EMG: Our team has been following your work for quite some time now and we are impressed by your nonstop work ethic and passion. How long have you been writing?

Shakema: I have been writing since I was around 10.

710 EMG: 10 is the age where most children begin to develop strong emotions so I can see why you started writing at that age. When did you realize that writing was your gift?

Shakema: I realized writing was my gift when I wrote my first real life poem my first year in college titled Fatherless Child.

710 EMG: That sounds like it was really deep. When did you publish your first book and are you a self-published author?

Shakema: I published my first book on my 28th birthday, May 15th, 2016. And yes i am a self-published author.

710 EMG: How many books or pieces have you released? Tell us about your latest release.

Shakema: So far I released 2 books. My next release doesn't have a release date, but it will be out sometime before Christmas.

710 EMG: Two books and now you're releasing one before Christmas? Nice! A lot of writers/authors have been inspired by another author to pursue their dreams. What about you? Did an author inspire you?

Shakema: Yes I was. Two authors inspired me actually.

710 EMG: Where do you see yourself at 3 years from now?

Shakema: Three years from now I see myself being a more established author. Hopefully a couple of Bestsellers under my belt, and my own publishing company.

710 EMG: Sounds good! What about 6 years from now?

Shakema: (She laughs) Six years from now I would like to have all the above and writing full-time.

710 EMG: Before you write do you do any special warm-up ritual?

Shakema: Nope. I just write.

710 EMG: Are you a pen to paper writer or fingers to keyboard kind of writer?

Shakema: Both. I write the whole story on paper first and after I finish i type it up.

710 EMG: If one of us popped up on you while you are writing what would we see?

Shakema: Me on my couch, notebooks everywhere, food somewhere close by, and my computer on google. Google is your friend (she laughs and smiles).

710 EMG: I know that you said that you have something releasing in December but what else do you have up your sleeve for your readers? Any new projects in the works?

Shakema: Yes, I have Sins of A King releasing before Christmas and Growing Pains 3 releasing early 2017.

710 EMG: Wow! I know that part 3 is going to be off the chain. Congratulations! So, tell us something silly about yourself that most people don’t know.

Shakema: (more laughter) Thank you! I dance while I'm eating.

710 EMG: Water or Soda?

Shakema: Water

710 EMG: Meat Eater, Vegetarian, or Vegan?

Shakema: I love meat!

710 EMG: Chicken Noodle Soup with a _______________.

Shakema: With a Pure Leaf Tea on the side! (more laughter)

710 EMG: Now that was a good one! What is your favorite song of 2016?

Shakema: Beyonce's All Night Long.

710 EMG: What is your zodiac sign?

Shakema: Taurus!! Bull nation (she smiles hard).

710 EMG: Inquiring minds want to know if you are single, engaged, married, separated, or married to the literacy game? Which one are you?

Shakema: Y'all nosy (more laughter)! I am in a committed relationship and married to the literacy game.

710 EMG: (laughter) Alright now Ms. Playa Haygood. Now the people know that you are not accepting applications. Well, it’s about time for us to wrap up this interview. Where can you be reached at and who is your favorite interviewer of all time? You don’t have to answer. I know it’s me!

Shakema: I can be reached via email, Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter: [email protected] or [email protected] My yahoo be tweaking sometimes though (she laughs). author.shakema_s.haygood or mskemy. /www.facebook.com/Mskemybaby and twitter.com/mskemy88. And being that this is my first interview I guess that makes you my favorite by default (she laughs). Thank you 710 you guys are the bomb.com! (More Laughter)

710 EMG: You're welcome and we look forward to seeing more of you in the stores!

I actually read her book Growing Pains and I love it! My sister told me about this author so I had to check her out. This is really a good interview and I hope 710 keeps us posted on Sins of a King.
